BREEDING SEASON IS COMING | PREP YOUR STALLION MARKETING BEFORE THE CHAOS STARTS
Every year, breeding season somehow does the exact same thing.
It shows up.
And every year, somebody is digging through their camera roll looking for a decent conformation photo, trying to remember what last year's stud fee was, hunting down genetic testing results, realizing their breeding contract still says 2025, and asking a designer if they can have a flyer done by Friday.
Could you technically pull everything together at the last minute?
Sure.
Is that how we recommend starting a season you're expecting people to spend thousands of dollars breeding mares during?
Absolutely not.
Late summer & early fall are the perfect time to start getting your stallion's marketing together for the upcoming breeding season. Not because you need to start screaming BOOK YOUR MARE NOW before anyone is ready ... but because doing the boring prep work now makes everything easier when breeding inquiries actually start rolling in.
And yes, 2027 breeding season will be here faster than you think!
EARLY BOOKING ISN'T JUST ABOUT BOOKING MARES EARLY
When we talk about "early booking," there are really two sides of it.
There's offering mare owners an incentive to commit early.
Then there's you getting your own crap together early.
We're big fans of the second one.
Your stallion's marketing shouldn't begin the day you decide to post his breeding fee.
Before you're actively promoting him, you should already know...
What his 2027 stud fee will be
Whether you're offering an early booking rate
What discounts are available
Where he'll be standing
Who handles breeding inquiries
What incentives and futurities he's enrolled in
What genetic testing information needs to be published
Which accomplishments need updating
Which photos you're actually using
Where mare owners can find his breeding contract
What marketing you're running for the season
That information feeds practically everything else you do.
Your flyer.
Your website.
Your social media.
Your stallion listing.
Your ads.
Your emails.
Your breeding contract.
Your inquiry responses.
Get the foundation right once & you aren't rewriting the same information twelve different times in December.

START WITH THE INFORMATION NOBODY WANTS TO HUNT DOWN
Before you worry about graphics, gather the facts.
Create one master document with your stallion's current information.
At minimum, we recommend having...
STALLION BASICS
Registered name, barn name, breed, year foaled, color, height, sire, dam and pedigree information.
BREEDING INFORMATION
2027 stud fee, chute/booking fees, collection and shipping fees if applicable, early booking rate, multiple mare discounts, proven mare discounts and any other available incentives.
TESTING + ENROLLMENT
Current genetic testing results and any applicable incentive, futurity or breeder program enrollments.
PERFORMANCE INFORMATION
LTE, points, titles, major accomplishments and relevant offspring accomplishments.
And please update these.
If your stallion won another $20,000 this year, we probably shouldn't still be advertising the LTE he had two seasons ago.
CONTACT INFORMATION
Stallion station, location, breeding manager, phone number, email address, website and social links.
Keep all of this somewhere accessible.
Not scattered between Facebook Messenger, screenshots, Notes, an email from 2023 and whatever piece of paper is currently living in the console of your truck.
We know how horse people operate.
GET YOUR PHOTOS TOGETHER BEFORE YOU NEED THE FLYER
This one will save everybody involved approximately 47 headaches.
Go through your stallion's photos now.
Figure out what you actually have.
You ideally want a mixture of...
Strong conformation photos
Clean headshots
Performance/action photos
Lifestyle or personality images
Current offspring photos, when applicable
And get the original high-resolution files whenever possible.
A screenshot from Facebook that has been uploaded, downloaded, screenshotted, texted three times and saved from Messenger is fighting for its life.
Good photography makes good marketing significantly easier.
If your stallion needs updated photos, schedule them before winter coats, bad weather and breeding-season chaos enter the chat.

DECIDE WHAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY SELLING THIS SEASON
Obviously, you're selling breedings.
But why this stallion?
That's the question your marketing needs to answer.
"Mare owners should breed to him because he's pretty" isn't much of a strategy.
Neither is ... "Great mind. Great confirmation. Great pedigree."
First ... conformation.
Second ... that description could apply to approximately 14,782 stallions on Facebook.
Figure out what genuinely makes yours worth considering.
Maybe it's his performance record.
Maybe it's an exceptionally proven maternal line.
Maybe he's producing a specific type of athlete.
Maybe his first foal crop is finally hitting the arena.
Maybe he's a great option for amateur-friendly crosses.
Maybe he offers color without sacrificing performance genetics.
Your strongest selling points should become the backbone of your season's marketing instead of throwing every accomplishment he's ever had onto one flyer in 11-point font.
UPDATE YOUR STALLION FLYER BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE NEEDS ONE TOO
We LOVE designing stallion flyers.
We do not love watching stallion owners realize on December 17th that they need one tomorrow.
And Diamond E isn't the only business that gets slammed during breeding season.
Photographers get booked.
Designers get booked.
Stallion stations get busy.
Print timelines get longer.
Everybody suddenly needs something.
Early booking gives you room to actually build something good!
Your designer has time to work with your best photos, organize the information properly, make revisions and create something intentional instead of simply fitting 37 pieces of information into a square before your deadline.
Your 2027 flyer should also reflect your 2027 information.
Don't keep circulating an old flyer because "everything is basically the same."
If someone has to message you to figure out whether the fee, location or contact information is still accurate, you're creating unnecessary friction before they've even asked for a contract.

GIVE YOUR STALLION SOMEWHERE TO LIVE ONLINE
This is one of the biggest missed opportunities we see.
A Facebook post is not a website.
A flyer is not a website.
And making someone scroll through six months of Facebook posts to find genetic testing results isn't exactly a premium breeding experience.
A dedicated stallion landing page gives mare owners one place to find the important stuff...
Pedigree. Performance record. Photos. Videos. Genetic testing. Breeding fee. Incentives. Location. Contract. Contact information.
It also gives you somewhere useful to send traffic from your social media, flyer QR code, ads, emails and stallion listings.
Instead of every post trying to explain absolutely everything about the horse, your marketing can do its actual job...
Get their attention → build interest → send them somewhere to learn more → make contacting you easy.
That's a much cleaner system.

PLAN YOUR CONTENT BEFORE DECEMBER
You don't need 90 perfectly written posts sitting in a spreadsheet.
You do need some idea of what you're going to talk about.
Your entire breeding-season content strategy shouldn't be...
AVAILABLE FOR 2027. BOOK NOW.
Posted 26 different ways.
Start identifying content categories now.
Think...
Performance accomplishments
Pedigree education
Sire and dam highlights
Offspring spotlights
Foal crops
Breeder testimonials
Behind-the-scenes content
Stallion personality
Genetic testing education
Cross recommendations
Breeding deadlines
Early booking reminders
Stallion station updates
Videos from the show pen
Throwbacks and career highlights
Now you have an actual story to tell throughout the season instead of screaming the stud fee into the Facebook void every Tuesday.
MAKE IT STUPID EASY TO INQUIRE
This sounds obvious. But apparently, it isn't.
Before breeding season, pretend you've never heard of your stallion and try to find out how to breed to him.
Google him.
Search Facebook.
Open his website.
Look at his flyer.
Can you quickly figure out...
Where he stands?
What he costs?
Who to contact?
How to request a contract?
Where to find more information?
If you're hunting for it and you own the horse...
We've got some work to do.
People are busy. Mare owners are comparing options. Don't make somebody work unnecessarily hard to give you money.
BUILD THE SYSTEM ONCE.
USE IT ALL SEASON.
This is really the point.
Good stallion marketing isn't about making one pretty flyer.
It's about building a system where everything works together.
Your flyer leads to your landing page.
Your social content drives people to your stallion.
Your landing page answers the questions your posts don't.
Your breeding information stays consistent everywhere.
Your contract is easy to access.
Your contact information is obvious.
And when somebody finally says,
"I'd like a contract for my mare."
You're ready.
Not digging through Google Drive wondering where the PDF went.

The best time to get organized is before everyone is asking for everything at once.

If you know your stallion needs an updated presence this season, get on the schedule early.
We'll handle the marketing side.
You handle the horse.
